Vision and Values

Sharon L. Hinton is not just running for office—she’s answering a lifelong calling to serve. A 70-year-old African American woman, mother, homeowner, and educator, Sharon has spent over 40 years empowering communities, uplifting youth, and advancing equity across Hyde Park, Mattapan, Readville, and Roslindale. Now, she’s ready to bring her unmatched experience, fierce compassion, and unwavering faith to City Hall as your next District 5 City Councilor.

With deep roots in the community and an unshakable commitment to social justice, Sharon has taught in public, charter, and higher education institutions, mentored incarcerated women, founded Black Teachers Matter Inc., and led civic initiatives that bridge divides. Whether at the head of a classroom or on the frontlines of advocacy, Sharon brings people together to solve real problems—and she gets results.

Sharon knows the challenges our neighborhoods face: housing that’s out of reach, schools that need support, transportation that doesn’t connect us, and businesses struggling to survive. As a City Councilor, she will be a tireless advocate for affordable housing, strong public education, job creation, and small business development—fighting for everyone from long-time residents to newly arrived immigrants. She believes in dignity, opportunity, and the power of neighbors helping neighbors.
